The Department of Basic Science and Humanities at the University of Engineering and Management (UEM), Kolkata, was established in 2015, coinciding with the inception of the university itself. Since its foundation, the department has been instrumental in laying the academic groundwork for students across diverse disciplines, serving as the bedrock of UEM’s multidisciplinary education system. These courses are part of the foundational curriculum offered to first-year B.Tech students. They are designed to strengthen core competencies in science, mathematics, programming, and engineering fundamentals. We believe that a strong foundation in science, communication, and values shapes not just skilled professionals, but thoughtful individuals. Our role goes beyond textbooks — we introduce students to the real world through industry visits and guest lectures by eminent experts, giving them a glimpse of life beyond the classroom.
But learning isn’t limited to labs and lectures. We actively encourage our students to explore their talents in art, culture, and sports — because we believe overall growth matters.
